We held the Festival annually ever since 1982. 726 choirs from 35 countries from Europe, Asia, North America and Africa have participated in the Festival so far. There were choirs from Armenia, Belgium, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, India, Israel, Serbia and Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Lithuania, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Germany, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Ukraine, the USA.
The aim of the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music “Hajnówka” is to present the great artistic and spiritual values of Orthodox Church music. Its program creates also the opportunity for discussion, meetings, exchanges of experiences and making of new relationships among the participants from different environments – and thus, it is equally enriched by the aesthetic and educational objectives.
So far the Festival has taken place under the Patronage of the President of Poland as well as the Patronage of the Polish Ministry of Culture and under the Artistic Patronage of prof. K. Penderecki.

Regulations
1. We have organized the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music „Hajnówka” every year in May since 1982.
2. Mixed, male and female choirs (max. 35 singers in choir) both from Poland and from abroad participate in the Festival in the following categories:
1. amateur choirs:
a) parish choirs
b) secular choirs
c) children’s choirs
2. music academies choirs
3. professional choirs
3. The category and the authenticity of each amateur choir should be confirmed by its artistic manager.
4. Repertoire should consist of at least five compositions of orthodox church music only and its time should be 18-20 minutes.
The organizers recommend selecting repertoire from different historical periods.
Any changes in the repertoire should be reported till March 15, 2014.
5. Applications should be sent to the Organizers’ Office by 15 December 2013.
6. The applications should be supplemented by program and records (audio or video) of the choir.
7. The organizers will inform choirs about the qualification to the Festival till the end of January 2014.
8. Qualified choirs, invited to participate in the Festival, are requested to submit the following data till the end of February 2014.
a) phonetic titles with duration time of each composition
b) full names of their composers
c) notes of all the compositions in the program.
9. The performances of the choirs are estimated by the international jury presided by Prof. Romuald Twardowski on the basis of the following criteria:
a) choice of repertoire
b) interpretation
c) conducting
d) artistic impression
10. All participating choirs will be granted commemorative diplomas. The best choirs will be awarded prizes. The choirs appointed by the jury are obliged to take part in Gala Concert.
11. Organizers cover lodging and sustenance (3 meals a day).
12. Qualified participants cover their travel expenses and are to partly finance their visit by making the transfer of money (18 EURO per person – daily) onto the organizers’ bank account before 15 of February 2014.
13. The written resignation from the participation in the Festival before March 01, 2014, enables the possibility of the return of the carried funds.
14. During the Festival the choirs have an opportunity to give additional concerts (also with a different repertoire).
15. The organizers reserve unlimited right for recording, duplication and distribution of recorded concerts. The choirs and their conductors do not receive any fees for participation in the concerts or for eventual radio or TV recordings made during the Festival.
16. All decisions of the regulations are final.
